W.G. Jackson Research Vessel Trip - Saturday, May 5
Muskegon, MI 49441
Hello TRIAGE Students and Family, The weather will be beautiful for this Saturday’s Boat Trip! Your student signed up to attend this research experience during TRIAGE. Please notify me if your student is planning on attending but did not sign up, as I need to have an accurate count of participants prior to leaving Calvin.
Reminders of details for trip:
WHEN? Saturday, May 5, 8:45 AM-4:45 PM
WHERE? Meet at Calvin College, in parking lot of Bunker Interpretive Center at 8:45 AM. We will be traveling to the Water Resources Institute in Muskegon, MI. Pick student up at 4:45 PM at the Bunker Interpretive Center.
HOW? Students will be traveling by bus hired through Calvin College. There will be two different cruises with scientists on Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake aboard the Grand Valley, W.G. Jackson Research Vessel. All students will be required to wear life jackets while aboard the vessel. Students will also be working in the lab with a scientist when they are not aboard the vessel.
VOLUNTEERS? Many adults are interested in accompanying their kids on this outing. This adult supervision is welcome. Due to a limited number of people on the vessel, adults may not be able to go on the vessel with the students. The student number on Saturday will determine the spaces for adult volunteers aboard the vessel. Some adult volunteers may also be asked to drive separately depending on number of students on the bus. If you are planning on attending, please be flexible. I am excited to have you! If you were planning on going as a driver and feel comfortable with your student riding the bus, it is OK to drop off your student on Saturday and enjoy the day. I have arranged supervision through Calvin as well as at the Water Resources Institute.
EMERGENCY NUMBER? Becky Martin’s Cell Phone 616-551-9770
FOOD? Bring a lunch and a drink. I will provide snacks and more beverages.
MONEY? No money is needed. There is not a gift shop at the AWRI.
