*Drivers - please have proof of insurance in car.
*Students - please pack according to packing list and have “Permission Slip completed for boat”
4:45 PM – Leave for Muskegon Naval Museum (eat snack in car)
5:45 PM – Arrive at the Muskegon Naval Museum
6:00–6:15 PM– Check in
6:30-7:00 PM – tours of submarine / cutter
7:00-7:30 PM – dinner - pizza
7:30 -8:00 PM – tours of submarine / cutter
8:00 – 8:30 PM – load boats / get settled
8:45 – 9:45 PM – video in museum – National Geographic’s “Lost Submarines”
10:00 – 11:00 PM – relax / settle in bunks
11:00 PM – Lights out
8:30 AM – Breakfast on submarine / cutter
9:30 AM – Check out
9:45 AM – Travel to Muskegon Yacht Club (1 mile away)
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Team Building Activities
12:00 – 12:30 PM – Lunch
12:30 – 3:00 PM – Team Building Activities
3:00 – 4:00 PM – Travel from Muskegon to Bunker Center
4:00 PM – Parents pick up students at the Bunker Center
PARENTS:
IF your child (and you, if you are chaperoning) are attending the kick-off event, and IF you are able to contribute to covering the cost for the overnight on the vessels, PLEASE don’t forget to make your donation (via cash or check made out to “Calvin College”) on Friday, February 16, as you drop off your child. We are requesting a $25/person donation, but will be happy with whatever you are comfortable and capable of contributing! We’ll have team coaches (our new names for parents, pre-service, and in-service teachers!) assisting with organization at the drop off site. This will include collection of donations and confirming completed transportation paperwork for students, chaperones, and non-chaperoning parents.
SO… when you drop off your child, it is essential that you “check in” with one of our TRIAGE staff (who’ll be IN the parking lot directly in front of Bunker) to be sure everything is properly documented for transportation, including signing off on current insurance coverage for those of you who will be drivers. Also, we’ll be happy to collect whatever donation you are able to make. We are not keeping track of those who donate, so please do not feel uncomfortable if you’re unable to contribute. The cost of this event is quite high, and donations will merely defray (not cover!) costs incurred, so we need your help if you’re able to assist.

PARENTS - WOW! What a response! You will notice that we don’t need anyone weekly, so all weekly volunteers were switched to every other week. If you requested “monthly,” you were assigned a standard week of the month (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th). We are fortunate and grateful to have such invested parents.
If you volunteered for TRIAGE, please check this Excel file (spreadsheet) to see when you are scheduled for OST. If you happen to fall on a date that is cancelled for any reason (e.g., Spring Break, inclement weather, no regular OST), then simply resume at your next assigned date.
You should notice that we’ve not included any field trips on this spreadsheet. Some parents are amenable to volunteering on field trips but not regular OST and vice versa, while others have volunteered for both. We will handle field trips that occur OUTSIDE Of regular OST separately (e.g., Friday or Saturday events). Otherwise, if a field trip is scheduled as part of your assigned regular OST, please expect to assist with transportation, if you’ve said, “YES!” to helping with field trips.

Do you think you know something no one else does? Are you unable to eat or sleep because you have a science question needing an answer? Or, are you able to claim the fame associated with correctly answering a TRIAGE scholar’s or a TRIAGE student’s question?
If you have responded “yes!!” to any of the above, you are ready to accept the mission of Science Speak.
This is where you may become part of the TRIAGE community and interact with fellow scientists on-line.
